The Beckermann story – 110 years of kitchen craftsmanship

A wealth of practical ideas from the very beginning.

1896 – the beginning of a long tradition

The company’s history dates back to the year 1896 when Heinrich Beckermann, whose father was a teacher, opened the company business in Cappeln near Cloppenburg in the region known as the Oldenburgischer Münsterland.

1902
In 1902 the first wood working machine of its kind was purchased for the workshop. It consisted of a saw, cutter and driller unit which could either be operated by hand using a chain transmission or pulled by horse by means of a capstan.

1904
A 10 horse-power petrol-driven motor was bought, which bore the name of its inventor OTTO and was at that time generally known as an OTTO MOTOR. With the installation of more and more mechanical production machines, the workshop soon took on the size of a furniture factory and several years later during the First World War the company was connected up to the electrical power supply. As the first synthetic surfaces and revolutionary base materials such as plywood and wood core plywood began to flood the market, Beckermann integrated these into its kitchen programme. Innovation at Beckermann is a tradition that began at a very early stage.

1940s
As a result of the currency reform after the Second World War, the German economy recovered significantly and Beckermann began to expand. In 1962 a new production location was opened in the German town of Werl. In 1976 the first factory in Canada began operations and sales centres were opened abroad.

1960s
Beckermann ventured into Europe. With the success of its advertising slogan „ Kitchens for the European Woman“ of 1969, Beckermann products achieved a brand name status in the kitchen world, making the Beckermann name synonymous with high quality products and international success.

1980s
The new generation of Beckermann kitchens was launched. The introduction of a 13 cm measurement matrix for all cabinets was an innovative move on Beckermann’s part, making the company more modern and freer to take on new challenges. This newly-discovered flexibility opened the way for novel architectural design and innovative kitchen concepts.

Heute
Today Beckermann Küchen GmbH is a global medium-sized company with approx. 200 employees. Our production facility is located in the town of Cappeln/Lower Saxony. We are selective in our choice of dealers and it is our policy to concentrate on the exclusive retail partner, whose wealth of expertise is an invaluable asset to our activities. Exports sales make round 50 % of our total turnover. We deliver goods to virtually every European partner and to the USA. We are present in the most diverse market segments, each with their own individual requirements and our name represents everything that is good about German quality.
